STAND UP FOR A CURE
OUR MISSION
Stand Up for a Cure was originally founded to raise awareness and funding for lung cancer research, treatment and education. With a new case being diagnosed approximately every 3 minutes and a grim 5-year survival rate of only 14%, there exists a profound need for an urgent response.
Since our inception, and through our work, we have witnessed the desperate need for support in other areas of both oncology and allied disease as well as in health policy and other social issues. We have dedicated ourselves to addressing these issues in our work and supporting those which we feel represent the most time-sensitive.
Research
Our relationships with some of the finest medical institutions, research institutes and government agencies allows us to direct support and funding to those programs which demonstrate the most evidence-based hope for progress. Research funding is allocated to developing new treatments and improving existing ones, advancements in the surgical treatment of lung cancer and in the laboratory where scientists investigate the genomics of the disease in an effort to cure it.
Patient Care
Cancer is an unrelenting and often unexpected life altering crisis. As a result, patients experience dramatic physical, emotional, familial and lifestyle changes. The treatment of the disease must be thoughtfully tailored to consider its effects on the patient and to weigh its benefits and potential risks. Throughout this process, in addition to medical treatment, patients are desperately in need of expert care in nursing, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, social work and end-of-life care (hospice).
Public Awareness
Stand Up for a Cure is aggressive in bringing the issues which we advocate for to the public. Through aggressive media campaigns which include Public Service Announcements (PSA's), outdoor advertising, radio advertising and large scale events- we are able to reach the masses and provide a message of hope and commitment. Through this heightened awareness of our work we are able to educate the public and shed light in these devastating causes.
IDENTITY
Our passion and initiative are embedded in our personal and professional experiences. Our constituents are physicians, nurses, patients and their families. As a result, our message and voice are pure and resonate with the urgency which exists.
Our public awareness campaign incorporates many of our celebrity members as well as patients, survivors and leaders in their respective fields.
